£5m work will slash energy bills

TOWN Hall chiefs are seeking a contractor to insulate four housing blocks in a move aimed at saving £1.6m in future repairs.
External wall insulation is to be provided at 304 homes in Arlington House, near Angel, Gambier House, in Finsbury, Haliday House, in Mildmay, and Ilex House, in Finsbury Park.
The authority estimates the project will shave an average of £245 a year from each household’s heating bills and save £1.6m in future concrete repairs over 42 years.
A report before councillors stated that the council has insulated 99 per cent of its cavity wall housing stock, where there are two walls with a gap between. It is now focusing on external wall insulation to tackle fuel poverty.
Work on the £4.9m contract is expected to take between 12 and 18 months.
