A year on, it’s time for a traffic count…

14 February, 2020

• I AGREE wholeheartedly with the Liverpool Road Residents’ Group, (We are fearful about the traffic now in Liverpool Road, February 7).

Islington Council must do what they promised to do following the redesign of Highbury Corner. The new road layout has been in place for almost 12 months and there should now be a detailed traffic monitoring exercise to assess the extent of any traffic displacement.

The traffic count should cover a wide area and should include – as a minimum: St Paul’s Road and Highbury Grove, Highbury Hill, the streets around Highbury Fields, Canonbury Lane, Canonbury Road and Canonbury Square, Liverpool Road; as well as the streets linking Liverpool Road and Upper Street.

Before the work started, the council assured residents that a traffic count would happen and that they would take mitigating steps to address any issues resulting from traffic displacement. It is time to deliver on this promise.
