Abandoned: £3m Northern line extension

10 February, 2017

THE story of a project extending the Northern line from Finsbury Park to Highgate and Alexandra Palace will be told on Wednesday.

The £3million line was abandoned in the early 1950s when it was virtually complete. Highgate High Level Station had been substantially rebuilt in 1940, but the extension was then put on hold because of World War II.

Jim Blake, author of Northern Wastes: the Scandal of the Uncompleted Northern Line, will tell its story at an event hosted by Islington Archaeology and History Society at 7.30pm at the Town Hall in Upper Street.
