Arsenal 3 West Ham United 1: Matchday player ratings

26 August, 2018 — By Richard Osley at Emirates Stadium

How the Arsenal players performed at the Emirates Stadium

PETR CECH 6
Beaten by Arnautovic from the edge of the box, but made good save from Robert Snodgrass.

HECTOR BELLERIN 7
Difficult to call, as the Spaniard set up two goals but also left gaps at the back with his charging runs. Needs to pick his moments.

NACHO MONREAL 7
Popped up with a goal at just the right time.

SOKRATIS PAPASTHATHOPOULOS 6
Not wholly convincing as he makes his claim to be the new rock at the back.

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI 6
Functional, but yet to form a confident partnership with Sokratis.

GRANIT XHAKA 6
A rather anonymous performance which raised more questions about how well the back four are protected.

MATTEO GUENDOUZI 6
Emery has been gradually introducing Lucas Torreira while playing the French teenager from the start, presumably because Guendouzi did not play in the World Cup. Displayed flashes of promise but will need to be a quick learner.

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN 7
Another productive showing but some training ground work needed on the free-kicks.

AARON RAMSEY 7
Stop, start performance, he began very deep and then at other times looked like a forward. Not all clicking together yet, but Arsenal surely must keep him at club.

ALEX IWOBI 5
Failed to follow up  last week’s encouraging performance at Chelsea with more of the same here and was taken off at the break.

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMAYENG 7
Will be frustrated not to have scored yet this season, but he’s trying and the goals will surely come.

SUBS:
Alexandre Lacazette 8, Lucas Torreira 7, Danny Welbeck 7
