Nacho Monreal has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium

AFTER weeks of speculation linking him with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, Nacho Monreal has revealed he is in talks with Arsenal over extending his stay with the club.

Monreal’s current deal with the Gunners expires at the end of the season, meaning that he would be free to talk to clubs outside of England from January 1. However, the Spanish defender says he is keen to stay in north London.

“At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal,” he told the Evening Standard. “I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them.”

Monreal turns 33 in February, but insists any thoughts on hanging up his boots could not be further from his mind. Asked about playing into his 40s, he said: “That is my idea, that is what I want.”
