ARSENAL will foot the bill to clear up the mess that FC Köln fans at Highbury Fields left before their Europa League match.
Street cleaning teams worked late into the night after the September 14 game when an estimated 20,000 German fans turned up.
Mountains of beer cans and rubbish in Highbury Fields and surrounding areas had to be removed.
Town Hall leader Councillor Richard Watts told a full council meeting last Thursday: “I want to say how grateful I am to Arsenal football club, who have agreed to meet the council’s extra costs.”
Arsenal has confirmed that it will pay up to £5,000 for the clear-up due to “exceptional circumstances” but would not say if it would cover the cost of future clean-ups.
