Arsenal owners to face fresh protest from fans

Demonstration expected at the Emirates Stadium as Gunners face Chelsea in first home match of the new Premier League season

Fans protested against the club’s owners in April after attempts to join a European Super League

ARSENAL fans are set to reignite their protests at the club’s ownership, with plans for a fresh demonstration outside the Emirates Stadium on Sunday being shared online.

The Gunners are due to face rivals Chelsea in their first home match of the league season, with supporters allowed to fill the stands again after the loosening of coronavirus rules. Several protests were held before matches last season, when fans were still locked out of stadiums.

Frustration boiled over when Arsenal tried to join a European Super League alongside five other English teams and big clubs from across the Continent.

The club withdrew and apologised for being involved in the money-spinning project.

Arsenal, who finished eighth last season, have since spent more than £100m on new players – an investment which the club would say shows ambitious planning by the ownership.

But a poor run of form carried on with a defeat to Premier League newcomers Brentford last week, and some fans are still demanding a change at the top with majority shareholder Stan Kroenke being urged to sell up.
