A MAJOR new piece of public art is planned for Angel Central shopping centre, it has been revealed.

With an £11million refurbishment in the pipeline at the centre, a shortlist of possible artists has been drawn up.

Their ideas will be exhibited at a consultation event on March 9 and 10, as residents and businesses get the chance to comment on their favourite proposals.

CBRE Global Investors said schools will be invited to see how the chosen design finally takes shape.

Laura Wilson-Brown, who is head of asset management at the company, said: “The new art installation or work will be a central focus for the proposed development and will reflect the contemporary look of a revitalised Angel Central.

“We are excited to see what the shortlisted artists will submit and how they have interpreted our brief.

“It is important the new art reflects the community and is something we can enjoy for many years to come.”

CBRE Global Investors is working with Contemporary Art Society Consultancy and property company Queensberry on the scheme.

Fabienne Nicholas, from Contemporary Art Society, added: “The highly-acclaimed shortlisted artists will each provide their own unique response to the local area.

“We are thrilled to have been part of the legacy process for this popular destination.”
