CAMPAIGNERS opposing the use of barbecues on Highbury Fields took their protest to Town Hall chiefs on Thursday.
Around 20 residents joined the full council meeting to formally hand in a petition of 1,200 signatures, collected online, calling for a barbecue ban in the park.
The Save Highbury Fields campaigners say the smoke causes high levels of harmful air pollution while disposable barbecues damage the grass.
Last week, they lodged a nuisance complaint at Highbury Magistrates’ Court against the council which says it is “happy to defend” its policy of allowing barbecues on the Fields.
No court date has been set for the legal action.
