Bridges not walls! Latino festival hits Finsbury Park

02 August, 2019

THE organiser of the UK’s biggest free Latino festival says it will be an example of how Finsbury Park can be used to bridge cultural barriers.

Speaking to the Tribune, Amaranta Wright gave a nod to a “wall” that was erected by Haringey Council to cordon off the Wireless festival after noise complaints.

She said: “People get quite angry about things and maybe the council underestimates how much damage erecting a wall in park. It is a very alienating thing.”

Ms Wright added: “I am nervous and excited for this. It is really difficult to get a park in London these days unless you’re a big commercial festival group like Live Nation.

“This is a big opportunity for us to show that this is something that is needed by the local community in terms of bringing people together.”

Dozens of Latino performers will take to the stage from noon on Saturday headlined by Rene Alvarez and his Cuban Combination.

About 40 volunteers have been recruited.

Ms Amaranta said: “Everyone is really proud to have a platform to show off their culture”.
