Calling the GP surgery is a nightmare

‘How many elderly patients have died waiting on the phone for their GP?’
• TRYING to get through on the telephone to my doctors’ group practice is a nightmare.
A patient can wait on the phone for 45 minutes before finally getting through to a receptionist.
I have no quibble with the reception or medical staff at the surgery. They are – almost invariably – excellent.
But I do wonder how many elderly patients like myself, with limited life expectancy, have actually died waiting on the phone, trying to get through in order to book an appointment.
It is more than time that the National Health Service conducted a survey of the relevant mortality rate.
