Candelight concert for chapel’s big birthday

Chapel goes back to its roots for a special concert

08 September, 2017 — By Emily Finch

THE Union Chapel will host a 140th anniversary concert without a PA system or modern lighting. The venue will be lit by hundreds of candles – marking how it was when it was completed in 1877.

The concert next Saturday (September 16) also marks 25 years of gigs at the church in Compton Terrace.

It will feature singer Luke Sital-Singh, East London Brass and the Union Chapel Singers among others, and all profits will go towards the conservation and development of the venue.

Luke Sital-Singh, whose recording from the night will be turned into an album, said: “Union Chapel has had a somewhat mythic status for me for over a decade. The place will always mean a lot to me and I can’t wait to be part of this special night.”
