Catholic schools reject academy trust option

A TOWN Hall chief has “welcomed” news that no Catholic schools in Islington will convert to form one academy trust.
Some school governors had expressed their concerns after the Diocese of Westminster revealed proposals for Camden and Islington’s 19 schools last year.
The diocese said schools becoming academies would provide more financial security and promote consistency.
A meeting planned for Tuesday night to debate the impact was cancelled at the last minute after it was confirmed no schools in the borough had chosen to form the academy trust with Camden.
Councillor Joe Caluori, executive member for children, young people and families, said: “This is welcome news. I felt all the way through this process that our local Catholic schools were better off staying as they are rather than taking a leap into the unknown and I am really looking forward to working with the diocese in the future to make sure children have the best school experience possible.”
