Chelsea 3 Arsenal 2: Matchday player ratings

18 August, 2018 — By Richard Osley at Stamford Bridge

Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas enjoy life at Chelsea

How the Arsenal players performed at Stamford Bridge

PETR CECH 5
Made several picture book saves that looked better than they were (i.e. if they had gone in, then the keeper would’ve been disappointed). Did not offer much to foil Morata’s second goal.

HECTOR BELLERIN 6
Missed some of his defensive duties but was never afraid to get forward. Dangerous speed when used as a weapon.

NACHO MONREAL 6
Reliable without ever really getting into the match.

SOKRATIS PAPASTHATHOPOULOS 5
First London derby provided a bit of a culture shock.

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI 4
Looks a spent force on afternoons like this. Pace of Chelsea’s forwards was too much.

GRANIT XHAKA 5
It wasn’t the worst day in the world for Granit Xhaka but he still ended up being withdrawn at half time.

MATTEO GUENDOUZI 6
Young recruit appeared to struggle with the pace but showed flashes of promise.

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN 7
Scored one, made one and ballooned another over the bar. Arsenal’s best player on the day.

MESUT OZIL 3
Anonymous No. 10 was eventually taken off by Unai Emery without landing a punch.

ALEX IWOBI 7
An unexpected start was rewarded with a goal and assist, and whole lot more running.

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG 5
Never really got started and was restricted to long shots.

SUBS:
AARON RAMSEY 6, Lucas Torreira 6. Alexandre Lacazette 5.
