Unai Emery: ‘We need their support, and they support us at every match’
THERE might be an international break this weekend, but that hasn’t stopped Unai Emery from dreaming about the “special feeling” that his team will provide for supporters when Arsenal return to Premier League action.
In terms of momentum, the gap in club fixtures comes at just the wrong time for the Gunners, who have now won their last nine games in all competitions.
The most potent display during that time was surely witnessed at Craven Cottage on Sunday when they dispatched Fulham 5-1, leaving the travelling fans singing “we’ve got our Arsenal back”.
Reflecting on the reaction from the stands, Emery said it’s important that the players “show their quality” on the pitch to strengthen the “togetherness” at the club.
“We need to fit together with the supporters, with the club and the players,” said the Spaniard.
“This mentality is very important for us, to show them our quality and strong work. Then together we can be happy.
“We need their support, and they support us at every match. Even against Fulham, it is in London, but it is away and I think the players on the pitch could feel their support every moment of the 90 minutes.”
Arsenal go into the international break fourth in the Premier League table, just two points behind the sides above them. Next, Leicester City visit the Emirates Stadium, and Emery wants his players to once again show fans their “commitment” and “winning mentality”.
“Yes, we are on the table, little by little, giving ourselves a better position for our ideas and our objectives,” he added.
“But I’m thinking of our match against Leicester, at the Emirates, our home, with our supporters.
“And I want to give them, when we are playing in our stadium, a special feeling with each match and show them we are playing with our quality, playing together with a winning mentality. Above all, with the commitment and with the behaviour like we saw against Fulham.
“We are happy but we are also calm because we know each match is difficult.
“We are going to continue with this process, and the work we have to do, with humility.”
