Coming soon: yet more empty luxury towers
23 February, 2018
• IN the midst of our current housing crisis, Taylor Wimpey is planning to stuff the Royal Mail site at Mount Pleasant with yet more luxury towers.
This is the scheme rejected by Camden and Islington councils’ planners, but shamefully upheld by Boris Johnson in the face of much local opposition.
Altogether, 681 luxury flats are to be built, ranging from five to 15 floors, casting many homes in Calthorpe Street and Farringdon Road in a permanent shadow. A small strip of green has been thrown in to present an illusion of a public space.
Judging by the state of the housing market, most of these luxury flats will remain unsold and empty. This is unacceptable.
