Council tax bills ‘likely to go up’

26 October, 2018

Cllr Richard Watts: ‘There is a lot of pressure on public services across the borough’

THE Town Hall leader has warned there is likely to be an increase in council tax next year, as the borough continues to face government cuts.

Cllr Richard Watts said the council has lost more than half of its budget in the last eight years. He said: “I think it’s likely we are going to be seeing further increases in council tax.

“There is a lot of pressure on public services across the borough.”

Cllr Watts has written to Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond calling for the government to deliver on Prime Minister Theresa May’s announcement last month that eight years of austerity are over, ahead of next week’s autumn budget.
