A LORRY driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs after a woman died in a crash in City Road yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
Police were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian at 12.20pm in City Road, at the junction with Westland Place, near Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Paramedics battled to save the woman, who witnesses said was middle-aged, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have not yet been informed, police said.
