Dazzling Debussy: London Flute Quintet at St James’s

03 July, 2018 — By Sebastian Taylor

The London Flute Quintet

THE exciting London Flute Quintet is at St James’s Piccadilly on Thursday evening (July 5), playing a Dazzling Flutes concert.

Their concert programme includes their own arrangements of Debussy’s Prelude de l’Apres-midi d’un Faune, plus two of his Arabesques and three numbers from Bernstein’s West Side Story.

Also being played are flute arrangements of Bach’s Concerto for oboe and violin and some of the movements from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

The London Flute Quintet was formed in 2015 with the aim of broadening and expanding the hitherto limited range of classical music for flautists.

All members of the flute family, from bass flute to piccolo, are played by the quintet to produce a ravishing palette of tone colours which brings their music to life.
