Disabled rights rally to highlight lack of help

THE benefits system makes disabled people feel “burdensome” and creates a sense of “insecurity and fear”, a prominent disability rights campaigner has said ahead of a rally next week.
Leading figures in the campaign to improve how disabled people are treated will hold a rally with shadow chancellor John Mcdonnell and Labour’s shadow minister for disabled people, Marsha de Cordova, on Monday.
It has been organised by Islington North disability officer Richard Reiser.
Micheline Mason, who helped organise the event, said: “The culture and climate that has been created over the last 10 years of Tory rule is oppressive and demeaning and cruel for people who need state support.
“The system for getting support makes us feel unnecessary, burdensome, untrustworthy and lazy.
“It has created within people a terrible sense of insecurity and fear.”
The event, also featuring comedian Francesca Martinez, is in Malet Street, Bloomsbury, at 6:30pm.
