Carnatic vocalist Manorama Prasad
SPIRITUAL and soul-stirring Carnatic vocalist Manorama Prasad – widely known for her exquisite control over ragas – is at SOAS, Russell Square, next Monday evening.
After musical training in Bangalore, she came to this country in 1990. Initially, she had a career as an economist before making music her focus again.
She’s known for her traditional and technical rendering and delectable control over ragas. She has also collaborated with western, classical, jazz and Hindustani musicians.
“Music is amazing, whether it’s western or eastern, the system is the same, the notes are the same, but the way we project that is different,” she says. “It’s very exciting.”
