MP for Islington South meets radiographer and mammographer Amber Postings

EMILY Thornberry urged women to get checked out for breast cancer “no matter how busy you are” after dropping in for her own screening at the Whittington.

The MP for Islington South and Finsbury was at the Archway hospital on Friday before travelling to Brighton for the Labour Party conference.

She wanted to raise awareness about the disease and that screening is free to all women over the age of 50.

Ms Thornberry said: “Little is known about how to prevent breast cancer, but the earlier it is found the better the chance for successful treatment. This is why breast screening is so important and I would encourage all women to make sure they attend a breast screening session. No matter how busy you are, you should always make time for a breast screening.”

Ms Thornberry gave a speech at the Labour conference in Brighton today (Monday) ridiculed Conservative foreign secretary Boris Johnson for the Brexit shambles.

The new chief executive of the Whittington, Siobhan Harrington, said: “About one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime and there is a good chance of recovery if it’s detected in its early stages.”

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
