Everyone likes dogs, they just don’t know that they do!

‘It is so lovely to see dogs wild and free, with no control, just how nature intended’
• DOGS are such lovely pets – how can anyone think otherwise? (Let’s have a dog-free day on the Heath, June 13).
The author states “not everyone likes dogs”. This is simply not true. Everyone does like dogs, they just don’t know that they do.
That is why the City of London constabulary are perfectly happy to turn a blind eye to bye-law 21 by allowing all the lovely dogs to enrich our lives by running, unleashed, on Hampstead Heath. After all, how can a dog possibly “annoy” or “disturb” anyone?
It is so lovely to see dogs wild and free, with no control, just how nature intended. All babies and children, especially, love huge dogs jumping up to them displaying their natural affection.
You only have to smile at the crying child and tell him or her (or the worried parents) that the dog is just playing and it won’t bite, then everything is OK.
I say the more dogs the better, and the Heath is a perfect place for them, especially with so much green space to poop in – much more hygienic than in the street where their poop has to be collected in a small bag – yeuch! And besides, I am sure it must fertilise the soil, improving the habitat.
The letter-writer has a mental health condition. But if s/he would just take time to stroke a dog, play with it and be licked by it, they would feel better. But even suggesting that we should restrict dogs in any way or form, from anywhere, especially the Heath, is outrageous.
