A man from Finsbury Park has been jailed after he was seen carrying a sword.
Yahya Abdullah, 21, of Ambler Road, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 24 October.
He had previously pleaded guilty on Friday September 27 to possession of an offensive weapon and was then convicted of affray.
Detective Sergeant Kerry Li, from the Central North Gangs Unit, said: “This incident involved a very dangerous weapon which was brandished during the mid-afternoon, and witnessed by a number of people.
“Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and the weapon was safely retrieved. Weapons like this have no place on our streets.”
At about 3:30pm on Wednesday July 24 two cars were involved in a collision on Copenhagen Street in Barnsbury.
Mr Abdullah got out of one of the cars and produced a 17 inch blade which splits into two separate swords. No one was injured in the altercation.
Mr Abdullah fled the scene but was spotted discarding the weapon behind a gate on Twyford Street.
Officers carried out a number of enquiries, including a review of CCTV footage, which led to the identification of Abdullah.
