River Fleet – the opera! Well, not quite, but as near as you’re likely to get in a new venture walking the river’s six-mile route to the sound of music, from its source on Hampstead to its mouth at Blackfriars on the Thames.

Fleet Footing Sonic Walk is a downloadable work combining music, maps and interactive performances to accompany walkers on their trek. The work is being premiered in the Tête à Tête festival of short operas and musical entertainments, mostly in King’s Cross venues, opening this weekend.

It’s a bold new work combining music and interactive performance in an exploration of the River Fleet’s route through live, interactive and recorded materials.

Music is by composer Catherine Kontz whose works often embrace elements of theatre and a visual dimension. She’s teamed up with writer Sarah Grange to create this site-specific piece that unearths the Fleet’s rich history.
