‘When footballers speak their voices are more powerful than politicians’
• FOOTBALLERS are a powerful force for good and with the Amazon rainforest, the lungs of the world, being destroyed at the rate of three football pitches a minute, it’s time Islington, and the world’s steely-eyed footie geniuses joined forces to ensure children, the world’s future footballers, will benefit from the retention of this oxygen-producing resource.
The curators of the forest, the native peoples, will never have the chance to be footie geniuses as they are being driven from their homes and ancestral lands by mining organisations, whose vulnerable employees are not protected from the mercury used to separate gold from soil. In Victorian times workers making hats used mercury and hence “the mad hatter”.
South America and the world loves football. And when footballers speak their voices are more powerful than politicians.
