A MOTHER and her son are fundraising for a boat club in Angel as part of their mission to raise £50,000 to keep activities going on the water.
The centre in City Road Basin launched its “MISSION50” campaign amid financial pressures.
Freddie Kelly, 13, has been going to the club for three years and says one day he would like to work for Islington Boat Club in Graham Street.
Kerry, Freddie’s mother said: “Freddie would spend all his time at the club if he was allowed to, he’s mad about kayaking and loves getting on the water at every opportunity. IBC has allowed him to stretch himself in ways he wouldn’t have done elsewhere, it’s really caught his imagination.”
Jan Dorling from Islington Boat Club said: “Freddie is so supportive of the club. He’s there for every fundraising day, helping out and having fun while he’s doing so.
During the Angel Canal Festival, Freddie took on a MISSION50 challenge to kayak 50 widths of the basin in an hour, in fact he smashed his target and completed it in under 20 minutes, raising a mammoth £350 in sponsorship so far.”
