Whitehall Park free school’s new building opens

31 March, 2017

The new building in Ashmount Road was officially opened on Saturday

THE sun shone brightly as pupils, parents and teachers celebrated the official opening of Whitehall Park School’s new building on Saturday.

Pupils at the free primary school run by Bellevue Place Education Trust have been taught in temporary cabins since it opened on the old Ashmount Primary School site in Archway in 2104 – but have now moved into a new, three-storey building.

Bellevue chief executive Mark Greatrex tweeted: “Wonderful opening celebration for Whitehall Park School today.

“Parents and staff put on a great event, showing off their inspiring new school.”

To the delight of parents and pupils, Islington Council’s planning committee unanimously approved plans to demolish the derelict “modernist” Ashmount School and build a new free school in 2015.

Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association is building eight one-bedroom, 23 two-bedroom and 11 three-bedroom flats and four homes with four bedrooms on the other half of the site.
