Hat-trick hero leads District kids fightback

17 February, 2017 — By Steve Barnett

A SUPERB second-half display saw the players representing the Islington Primary Schools District football team finish their Lester Finch Trophy campaign in real style on Saturday with a 6-2 victory over Barking and Dagenham.

Held at St Aloysius Playing Fields, the mighty reds came from a goal down to level the first half 1-1 thanks to a neat finish from Freddy Brennan, who tapped home Stephane Mgbada’s fine cross.

Early in the second half, a long kick from goalkeeper Sid Marshall caused problems for the Barking defence and Mgbada out-muscled his marker to score with a controlled finish.

Mgbada was far from done terrorising the Barking back line as he went on to complete his hat-trick, while Cameron Walker chipped in with arguably the goal of the game when he picked the ball up on the left flank, drove forward, and hit an unstoppable shot from all of 25 yards, which flew past the goalkeeper and into the net.

In the dying seconds captain Jonnie Gurie wrapped up the win when he scored from close range.
