A HIGHBURY vicar said he was “delighted” with new solar panels installed on his church roof, with seven more churches lined up to get the money-saving tech.

The panels were installed this week at St Augustine’s Church, Highbury New Park, through funding by local charity Cloudesley as part of its sustainable church buildings project grant to mark 500 years in the borough. St Augustine’s vicar, Rev’d Gabriel Anstis, said: “It’s fantastic that we’re now able to generate renewable electricity. As a church family, we’re absolutely delighted that we can make a difference in the care of God’s Earth.

“Thank you to all those locally, including our wonderful neighbours at Highbury Quadrant Primary School, who supported the installation of solar panels on our church roof. We hope that we, and the wider community in Highbury, will continue to champion the importance of caring for the environment.”

He also thanked the “brilliant” charity Cloudesley which is named after 16th-century Islington resident Richard Cloudesley who left a parcel of ground in his will to various religious and charitable organisations.
