Highbury Quadrant estate tenants treated as a nuisance, not as customers

11 May, 2018

Highbury Quadrant

• AS a resident of Highbury Quadrant, I welcome the fact that Diarmaid Ward now wants to listen to our concerns and has committed to address key problems before embarking on cyclical works, (Better estate on the way, May 4). And I look forward to working with the council constructively towards a solution.

However, the fact that we had to involve the press to be heard, as in many other incidents the Tribune reports on regularly, points towards a deep-seated culture in the housing department that treats tenants and residents as a nuisance and with contempt rather than as customers they have to look after.

Thus it seems a bit premature for Councillor Ward to congratulate himself on any achievement before he has managed to actually change that culture and turn the department around.

Quadrant residents will keep a watchful eye on progress to make sure that the council delivers on its public promises. At the same time, we are committed to building a constructive relationship with the council and to supporting Cllr Ward in his efforts not only to resolve specific issues on our estate, but also to tackle that deep-seated culture of disregard within his department.
