Home-work for our teachers

21 April, 2017

Ladbroke House

• COUNCILLOR Joe Caluori has come up with a good idea when he suggests that the new senior school proposed at the Ladbroke House building should have housing for teachers on the site (New free school only for 16-plus, April 14).

It beats me why more schools don’t provide accommodation for staff on-site. It should certainly be included in new builds and, where possible, retrofitted at existing schools.

I’m sure imaginative architects could come up with plans to broaden the footprint of school buildings – extending upwards with penthouses on top, or downwards using light wells for residential basement flats. Maybe a few houses could also be slotted between buildings.

It’d be good for security. Burglars and vandals don’t usually like occupied premises. And it’d be good for teachers and other staff who would obtain reasonably-priced living quarters with the easiest of commutes to work.
