Hot streak! Admiral beat Fire to reach last 8

08 March, 2018 — By Steve Barnett

Islington Admiral United have reached the quarter-finals

ISLINGTON Admiral United moved a step closer to retaining the Invitation Cup when they secured safe passage into the quarter-finals on Monday with a 2-0 win over Furzedown Fire.

It looked like it was going to be one of those nights for Admiral, with both Jake King and Andrew White hitting the crossbar early on.

The Islington Midweek League Premier Division side kept carving out chances, however, and took the lead on the stroke of half-time when King’s pinpoint pass was met on the volley by Alfie Francis, who calmly lifted the ball over the keeper.

Admiral killed off the game late on with a fine sweeping move involving White, King, Francis and Sam Donoghue, which ended with midfielder Liam Magwood chipping the ball home to wrap up the victory.

They will now play either Todo Ciudad or White City Wanderers in the last eight at Market Road later this month.
