Hysteria about leaving the EU is looking stale and is damaging this country

• MICHAEL McElligott suggests that Labour Party members supporting a customs union are “strange” and will hinder the party’s election chances, (Jobs payback for politicians? March 1).
I’d say that Mr McElligott’s viewpoint is not just strange but crazy. A no-deal Brexit will lose jobs, reduce the supply of key workers and drive down trade standards.
I am glad Labour seeks a customs union, and supports a public vote. These positions will enhance its election chances. Hysteria about leaving the EU is looking stale and is damaging this country.
Isn’t it time we admitted the promises made during the referendum were false, and look for other ways to address inequality?
