In a single-party state there is no democracy, no proper debate and clearly no opposition

• I HOPE it isn’t true that we “get the politicians we deserve” as no sensible Islington resident could possibly want a chamber with 47 Labour councillors out of 48.
There was probably more diversity in the Politburo, and while Councillor Caroline Russell does a great job we need to vote “Anything but Labour” on May 3.
In a single-party state, there is no democracy, no proper debate and clearly no opposition. It is no wonder the council is so often accused of not listening to residents. It knows it does not have to do so and it is patronising of Councillor Richard Watts to claim that it isn’t a problem.
