THE cancer care team at the Whittington Hospital bagged the “Innovation Excellence Award” at this year’s Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards.
The winning team – The C Factor – offers group therapy where participants explore the experience of cancer through storytelling.
Dr Sue Gibbons, Macmillan Cancer Care psychologist at the Whittington Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, who collected the award, said: “It is great to have the opportunity to highlight the benefits of a more creative approach to cancer support, and demonstrate how the arts and psychology together can be so beneficial in supporting people living with cancer to maintain good mental health.”
Ed Tallis, Macmillan head of service in London, said: “This is a perfect example of how Macmillan is working in close partnership with the NHS to support and enhance the capacity of our cancer workforce in north London.”
The awards ceremony, in its eighth year running, was hosted by actor Larry Lamb at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on November 7.
