ISLINGTON Boat Club’s (IBC) 50th birthday celebrations, scuppered by the coronavirus outbreak, have come in for a welcome boost after the charity was shortlisted for the Improving Impact category and a chance to win a £5,000 grant in this year’s Charity Governance Awards

IBC’s development officer Sarah Corcoran said the coronavirus crisis had hit the club hard, with the charity going from planning it’s 50th birthday celebrations for the end of April to closing their doors for the first time in 50 years.

“IBC has always boasted that in today’s digital world where children live in virtual worlds, we offer an opportunity for them to come and experience real life adventures in the great outdoors, but we have devised ways to keep them engaged through this medium.

“The club and the community are adjusting to the new normal that Covid-19 has brought, being nominated has lifted spirits us all.”

The winners will be announced on 21 May 2020 via a special online presentation from the historic Clothworkers’ Hall in London.

You can follow the awards on Twitter via @CharityGovAward or by using the hashtag #CharityGov20. Winners will be announced on the website following the virtual ceremony in May – visit www.charitygovernanceawards.co.uk.
