Islington Council do not have the legal right to force people onto direct debit

08 September, 2017

• IN response to being forced online to pay the council tax, I agree with Martin Rutherford (They’re ditching paper bills, but we can’t all go online, September 1).

This does not consider elderly residents and those who budget with cash they have. Islington Council do not have the legal right to force people onto direct debit. Forcing people online needs a legal challenge and an appeal to the government.
