A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after four police officers were injured while responding to reports of a fight in Islington at the weekend.
The Met Police said officers were met “with hostility” at a home in Liverpool Road on Saturday night at about 10.45pm.
Two male officers were stabbed as well as a female officer who also sustained a suspected fractured wrist. Another female officer suffered a head injury.
All were admitted to hospital, with one of the male officers undergoing treatment for “significant facial injuries”. All four have now been discharged and none of the injuries were deemed to be “life-threatening”.
Alex Traykov, 19, of Brighton Road, Redhill, Surrey, was charged on Sunday with four counts of attempted murder. He was remanded to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A second 19-year-old man, who was also arrested on suspicion of affray and burglary, has been released under investigation.
Borough Commander Iain Raphael, of Central North Command, said on Sunday: “I am in the process of personally contacting all of the officers involved in this incident. This includes those who were injured and those who attended to assist their colleagues.
“My main priority now is to ensure that all the officers receive the support they deserve. Officers come to work to protect the public and should not end up being victims of crime themselves.”
