Islington’s New River, our shared garden
24 November, 2017
• AFTER sad recollections of the King’s Cross fire (30 years on, memories of station fire disaster, November 17), I feel the need to lighten the mood, so here’s my ‘feelgood’ story from Sunday.
On my way to chapel I passed a young mother with a little one, in his coat and mittens. She was saying: “We’ll go and see the water, and maybe some fish.” At this his face lit up, there was a squeal of joy, and his mittened hands went up in the air to “Yes!”
It reminded me of the importance of the work of the Friends of the New River. For those of us without gardens of our own, it is our shared one.
