Jonathan ‘JJ’ McPhillips who was stabbed to death last year
A 22-year-old man from Hoxton appeared in court today charged with the murder of a father who was stabbed to death in Upper Street nearly 12 months ago.
Michael Dyra, 22, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday to be formally charged with the murder of Jonathan ‘JJ’ McPhillips, 28, which took place on February 25, last year.
Mr Dyra was also charged with with grievous bodily harm with intent, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Mr McPhillips, who lived near Upper Street, was fatally stabbed outside the Town Hall while he was with a group of friends.
Hundreds turned out for the father-of-two’s funeral last March at St Mary’s Church in Upper Street.
Mr Dyra will next appear at the Old Bailey in the middle of February.
