Julie Tomlin’s theatre news: Camden Fringe; No One Likes Us; Forgetting Heledd;

A guide to some of the highlights of the Camden Fringe

Now a firm fixture in the theatre diary, the Camden Fringe is out of the blocks on July 29, with a host of performances across a variety of venues.

Here are some highlights: Opening at the Etcetera Theatre on July 29 is Big Mood’s socially [un]acceptable, a series of autobiographical vignettes exploring the concepts of “socially acceptable” sexual assault.

Also on July 29 at The Hen and Chicken’s Theatre is No One Likes Us, which follows the story of a devoted Millwall fan, who finds himself at the mercy of his Eastern European nurse. It’s on until August 3.

The Camden People’s Theatre is host to Forgetting Heledd until August 5, a one-woman play that follows a teenager’s coming-of-age in the South Wales valleys.

At the Canal Cafe Theatre August 1-2, Brandy is the story of Queen Anne’s meeting with her childhood friend, and adversary, Sarah Churchill and the impact of their relationship on a nation.

ChewBoy Productions’ opens the Lion and Unicorn Theatre’s Fringe offering, with Euan, a nonsense-filled mystery that looks at what we’re prepared to do to save our own skins.

At Theatro Technis, Marvellous Machine Theatre Company re-imagines Virgina Woolf’s Orlando. Running from July 31-August 1, it combines music, drag, movement and comedy.

Catch Spur of the Moment’s Class at the Tristan Bates Theatre from July 29- August 3.

Based on real-life interviews, the stories from working class people from all ages and ethnicity are performed by Alyce Louise-Potter and Kelsey Short.

At Upstairs at the Gatehouse July 30-31 and August 4, Theresa Rebeck’s Sunday on the Rocks follows four flatmates in an exploration of what it means to be a “good woman”.

Aside from the Fringe, check out F*** You Pay Me, the latest from Brazilian playwright Joana Nastari. On at the Arcola Theatre from July 26-27 this play uses music, comedy and poetry to challenge the stigma surrounding sex work.
