Holborn death junction is still a danger, warn cyclists

Temporary measures not enough

08 October, 2021 — By Tom Foot

CYCLING campaigners say changes to a dangerous junction where a doctor died do not go far enough, writes Tom Foot.

The council and the Mayor of London have made urgent changes to Theobald’s Road and Southampton Row junction in Holborn following the death of Dr Marta Krawiec in August.

But London Cycling Campaign’s Simon Munk said: “The temporary measures go nowhere near fixing the junction completely, nor is there any timetable for a more complete scheme, let alone fixing all the other lethal junctions in the Holborn’s one-way system where seven cyclists have been killed since 2008.”

Changes include more cycle boxes and allowing cyclists to go straight ahead instead of turning left.

“These immediate measures are the beginning of changes planned for this junction,” said the Town Hall’s cycling chief Cllr Adam Harrison.
