ONE of the borough’s oldest residents enjoyed the sunshine as she celebrated her 104th birthday this week with friends and family.
Ivy Watts, who lives in the Finsbury Estate, told the Tribune she had a “marvelous” time celebrating the milestone with her loved ones on Wednesday, and added she was looking forward to her next birthday.
Ms Watts, who was born in 1916, also thanked the council for installing a new cooker last year, which meant she could once again enjoy her own cooking.
She worked as a seamstress making coats in Exmouth Market, and before that was a cook after coming to the UK from Guyana in 1962.
The eldest of six siblings, she took on responsibility for looking after her family when her mother died aged 45.
She says her long life is down to “keeping active and looking after myself”, and Ms Watts still enjoys shopping and keeping up with the latest fashions.
