THE Town Hall leader is celebrating – not prematurely before May’s council elections, but because of his brother’s success at the Commonwealth Games.

Richard Watts’ younger sibling Simon, who is the lead mountain biking coach for the Great Britain Cycling Team, trained 21-year-old Evie Richards, a successful young rider who claimed a silver medal this week at the Games in Australia.

She made history as England’s first women’s mountain biking medalist, alongside gold winner Annie Last.

Cllr Watts, who was sharing the love about his brother’s success on Twitter, said: “I’m very proud.

“He texts me every so often if we see each other on the television, giving each other critical praise.”

On whether he ever saw he and his brother holding such senior roles as children growing up in Nottingham, he said: “No, we are both from a really ordinary family – my mum was a teacher and my dad was a vicar. We’ve gone into very different fields.”
