A STRING of robed mayors marched through Islington to honour their historic predecessor Dick Whittington.
They started at the Whittington Hospital in Highgate, named after the medieval politician, as it is believed that that is the place where Mr Whittington heard the Bow Bells calling him back to take up his position as Lord Mayor of London for the fourth time.
Current Islington mayor Councillor Dave Poyser, who led the group through the borough, said: “Normally I get chain envy when I meet the other mayors because one of my predecessors lost our chain.
“But this time I showed them my parlour in the Town Hall and I think a few of them had parlour envy.”
The walk, which took place on Sunday, was undertaken to raise money for the mayors’ chosen charities.
