A 52-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Sunday) on suspicion of murder after a body was was found in a green wheelie bin outside a house in Holloway on Saturday. Detectives are still trying to establish the identity of the man while a post mortem has yet to take place.
Neighbours said they were “terrified” to learn about what had happened in their street after the body was found in Tollington Road at the junction of Annette Road.
One man living near where the body was found, who did not want to be named, said his neighbour had found the body while looking for his green recycling bin which had disappeared from the front of his house.
He said: “He told me he saw his bin was missing and he couldn’t find it. There was rubbish over the floor outside his house. He went looking around for it and was thinking, ‘oh just kids playing around’. He found it a few doors down from his by the front garden of another house. He went to take it back and there was something heavy inside. Then he looked inside and there was a body.”
Police forensic officers were seen inside a property in Tollington Road today (Monday) which had been sealed off by police less than 30 metres away from where the recycling bin with the body had been found.
Another neighbour, who did not want to give his name, said he had “regularly” complained to police about drug dealing and anti-social behaviour near his home.
“As far as I’m concerned, the police haven’t done anything for this area. But I wonder if they’ll listen now,” he said.
Police were called to Tollington Road by the junction with Annette Road shortly before 4pm to reports of a man’s body found in a wheelie bin on Saturday.
