Man dies after flats block fire

A MAN was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire in Stroud Green.

The London Fire Brigade is investigating what started the blaze in Hanley Gardens last Thursday evening, although there is no police inquiry.

Part of a ground floor flat was destroyed by fire in a three-storey block of flats.

A woman and a child evacuated the building from a neighbouring property before the Brigade’s rescue teams arrived.

It was called just after 11.30pm and the fire tok around 90 minutes to bring under control.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Holloway, Kentish Town and Hornsey fire stations were at the scene, the Brigade said.

The name of the man who died has not been released but an inquest into to circumstances is expected to be held at St Pancras Coroner’s Court.
