A VISIT from the Mayor of Islington was the icing on the cake for children from a special needs school celebrating the opening of their newly revamped playground.

Mayor Rakhia Ismail needed the help of Bridge Primary student Adam Shajirit to cut the ribbon and mark the official opening of the school’s £40,000 playground upgrade.

The money, secured from a community infrastructure levy raised through planning, restored existing equipment and built new play areas for the pupils to enjoy.

Head of School Penny Doswell said: “It really helps them to enjoy their lessons and they can use this equipment to exercise outside too.”

Cllr Ismail said: “It’s important to see that this investment is working, and the children are benefiting from it.”
