14 September, 2020 — By Calum Fraser

Police have set up a cordon along North Road where the teenager was found

THE police launched a murder investigation yesterday (Monday) after a teenager, believed to be 18, was stabbed to death.

Officers were called at 8pm to North Road, near Caledonian Road, where the victim was found suffering from stab injuries.

The teen was treated by paramedics but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Flowers have been left near the scene

One woman, who has lived in the area for 40 years, left flowers at the scene with the message “rest in peace young man”.

She told the Tribune: “I spoke to him 15 minutes before it happened. He had a lovely big smile. My dog had been chasing him. I then drove up to Archway and came back and he was dead. I can’t believe it. It’s so sad.”

Officers are still working to identify the victim and inform his next of kin.

There were distressing scenes last night as family begun to gather near the police cordon.

A witness, who did not want to be named, told the Tribune the victim had been chased down North Road by “a group of men” who were “not from the area”.

A police cordon remains in place

Islington South MP Emily Thornberry said: “Yet another young man has been stabbed to death on the streets of Islington tonight. My thoughts are with his family and friends who are in shock at this tragic news.”

There have been no arrests.

A crime scene is in place and an investigation is in progress.

Enquiries into the circumstances continue.

Any witnesses or those with information are asked to call 101 ref CAD 7154/14 Sept.
